By
request it was decided to set this classic pattern for 2 Saturdays in
July.
There was an on-going class in session and they decided this was a must
for the slow summer season and the dates decided upon are July 5 and 19,
9:30 to 3:30 each day. Total fee for both days is a Summer Sizzler
Special at just $40. Books are in stock!
On the 3rd
Friday in July , we will be making a striking star wall hanging. Using
Triangles on a Roll we will have this quilt together in no time.
If you are new to Triangles on a Roll, you will love this class
as you learn a quick way to make half square triangles. Bring only 2
fabrics with high contrast and a friend and go home with a 34” quilt top
done or make 3 - 8 more blocks for a larger bed quilt.
We
all have them. Leftover bits of binding, extra strips that weren’t
needed for that strip pieced quilt, wedges from straightening the ends
of fabric, and more. Too much to just toss in the trash, but what do
you do with them? String quilts is the answer. This is a
technique that has been popular at various times and is really more than
one technique. We will talk a bit about some of the history of string
quilts. See several different ways to use those strings and make some
blocks. The class sample shows a few different blocks all made with
“strings” and there are dozens more. Choose one block to make a whole
quilt, or make a sampler as I did. Fun, easy, and traditional…..but
also new and exciting. A great way to spend a summer Saturday, in the
cool Sun Valley classroom. (patterns will be provided for sampler
blocks.)
Summer Wine is another
beautiful embroidered quilt from Jenny and Simon Haskins. It
incorporates appliqué, multi-hooping, and placement. This is an
intermediate project because you need to be familiar with hooping and
placement; we will also be working in software to help us make the
templates. If you have questions as to whether you can do this quilt,
please contact Georgia and discuss it with her. The class is going to be
attempted in sdix sessions so you can see that there will be homework.
Most of the homework will be a repetition of the things we do in class
and you will just need to accomplish the embroidery at home.
Date: Tuesday -
Sept 16, Oct 7, Oct 21, Nov 5, Dec 3, Dec 17.
Triangles play a large part in quilting.
Learn several construction methods for half-square triangles and more.
Techniques will include using Triangles, a self-made grid, Omnigrid 96
ruler, templates, rotary cutting squares and the bias strip method.
In this class you will discover a method that works for you.
Join Jody and her
friends as we use Eleanor Burn’s method to make the Card Trick blocks
for this quilt. This quilt can be made any size from baby to king. The
blocks float so you don’t lose your points and are easy enough that
beginners feel accomplishment and experienced quilters enjoy the
quickness of making them - no half square triangles. Bring a friend and
let’s have some fun.
The June 25 workshop was so popular and
hurried, we are going to continue with the same techniques and spend
lots of time on cutting and using even and uneven stripes in a mitered
border. Bring your questions or unfinished SAMPLES back and let's go
over miters again. We will explain the easy steps of BORDERS. We will
review all the steps to the various ways to do a binding, including
Prairie Points, in October. So let's go back through all these finishing
techniques at a more user-friendly pace. New students encouraged!
Evening classes for those of your who work or need a baby-sitter.
Date: Wednesday -
August 13 (Borders), October 15 (Bindings)
