This beginner class is an introduction into the wonderful, creative, playful world of quilts with half-rectanlge triangles that give lots of motion to a design. Have fun using those stripes you have purchased over the years or take a look at all the new stripes at that shop. Many of the stripes are with collections but are worth the hunt! Two sessions are offered: The first session defines the beginning of the design. Learn how to cut these stripes to get different looks and sizes. Homework is to finish sewing the blocks. The second session brings the blocks together. Learn how to accommodate different sized and colored blocks. Add a solid color if wanted. This class is optional but will get you closer to a finished quilt! Each session is $25.00

If you have a project... anything you're working on or want to start that is happening in the hoop this is the class to join. Each student will be embroidering any project of the choice. It's the perfect time to catch up or start something new!

This is a quilt design by Claudia Dinnell. The class will be intensive as we teach lining up one embroidery design with the next, not in blocks, not using centers. If you own a Bernina 880, 790, or 590 you can use Pin Point Placement. You will be instructed in the use of this tool in your machines and in Claudia?s Perfect Placement Technique. The two day class will concentrate on making sure you can use these methods without assistance. The actual quilt will take a few more days outside the class to construct. There is a center medallion that will also be taught. These are techniques you can use in many future projects. You will never again have trouble with placement.

Create a true glass look stitched tile by tile depicting roses, leaves and butterflies. YOu will like the look of the shading for each one. Thread conversions chart is included to allow you to decide your color chart or select your own colors. You must however download your own embroidery design.

Animal lovers, let's turn your photo into a work of art! You will learn a unique pattern design technique, combined with mixed media and thread painting to create an eye-catching art quilt! Learn to create animal portraits through realism applique, thread painting techniques and the use of mixed media, i.e., paints, pastels, inks. Students will learn a unique pattern design technique, combined with mixed media and thread painting to create an eye-catching art quilt. We will be using mixed media to create eyes and blending of fabrics, and finish with thread painting to create the fur. You will need to find a favorite photo of your animal. Make sure it is very clear and sharp with good value ranges. The animal should fill the full frame of the picture. Choose whether you want to whole body of the animal or maybe just the face, like my sample. Eyes are especially important, so make sure you can see them well. Just keep it really simple.

You've been asking and its finally here! Strap in for a jam-packed 4 days of creating! You will be painting your sky and ground, then learn a special technique of designing your pattern, cutting, and creating. Layers are added to develop depth. You will learn all about inks, different kinds of pastels, mixed media pencils; how, when, and where to use them, not to mention the specialty paints that give the most vibrant of skies and land. Free motion and thread painting will top it off to complete this wonderful Arizona landscape called "Splendor". You will receive a kit with your pattern, instructions, design and more! Paints will be provided for you, as well as the use of instructors mixed media supplies to share if you do not have your own.

Create fabulous texture using your sewing machines decorative stitches! You will also incorporate beading, different fibers, embroidery and more! Your fabric choice for the background will make your piece so exciting!

People say eyes are the windows to the soul. When you create eyes, you want to depict the personality of the subject you are working on, weather it is a human or an animal. Take the mystery out of creating eyes with this magical class that will teach you how to thread paint an eye and create an eye using mixed media. You will become addicted! In this class you will have the opportunity to do six different eyes. You will create the eye with mixed media and then create the same eye with thread painting. This will give you the opportunity to learn the different types of eyes, for example a horse has horizontal pupils, cats have a very narrow vertical pupil and so on.

You've seen the Fiberworks patterns right? The cute elephant, the cow, the two pigs? Adorable! In this two part class, we'll be cutting and pressing and gluing these cute critters onto our base fabric and the following day, we'll get going on the quilting. What makes these work is the play of pattern and contrast so we'll have both discussion and hands-on workshop. You won't want to stop at making just one of these patterns!

Explore free motion quilting and practice on the Q'Nique longarm. Learn to sketch, then stitch a variety of motifs from gentle curves, to pebbles, leaves and more. New motifs every month. Choose the Thursday or Saturday session. Bring a sketchbook and pencil to practice the designs before we move to the longarm. Each month will feature different motifs. Class content is the same on both days, so you only need to attend once a month.

With gravestones, a personalized sewing machine, and a variety of Kimberbellishments, the Candy Corn Quilt Shoppe is a treat for sewing and machine embroidery enthusiasts. Come for a few days of fun sewing a Halloween treat. All the embellishments, fabric, and designs are included in the class fee. The fun is provided by all of us and your classmates.

This Kimberbell Bench pillow will complement the "Whisk you a Merry Christmas" wall hanging. It is meant to be bright and full of sparkles! You can almost smell the cookies. The peppermint pinwheels will be a highlight along with the lollipops, red and white stripe candy canes. Lots of embellishments to add to the Christmas atmosphere.

This special Mastery class has been designed for students who have purchased the 765/770 Upgrade to Plus package for their eligible Bernina model. In our three-hour class you will be introduced to these "new to you" features on both the sewing and the embroidery sides of your machine. As always, when you purchase your Machine, Software or Upgrade from Sun Valley Quilts, your mastery class is FREE to you. If you have purchased your Upgrade to Plus package elsewhere there will be a fee of $75 to attend this class. If you are interested in purchasing the Upgrade to Plus package, please give us a call!

Come join us in our large classroom for some friendly, fearless, fun stitching happiness! This is an unstructured opportunity to bring your own project, and socialize at the same time. You'll have access to our cutting tables, mats, ironing boards, large tables, refrigerator, microwave and you'll get to share your show and tell! This newly reformatted class, will be much like Quilt and Chat used to be, though there will be no class instructor. You will have access to the SVQ staff if you're truly stuck, but we know that our customers are often the best at troubleshooting sewing difficulties! Come meet new friends and join those you've sewn with for years!

Come join us for a fun filled evening, wear your pajamas or your more formal attire. Our Midnight Madness and Embroidery Chicks have combined with a new name for double the fun. There will be shopping, sewing or working on your embroidery UFO's (Unfinished Objects) with the companionship of other enthusiasts. We can't guarantee how much actual work will be accomplished, but we know you'll all have a good time! Register early, bring a snack to share and bring your machines, modules, threads and your projects. Bring your own drinks and snacks, be prepared to share and have a good time. Class size limited. Please register early. Typically meets 3rd Friday evening each month 5:30 pm to Midnight!

Panels, panels, panels... they are everywhere, but what can you do with them? Strategize and gather ideas for what how to turn your panel into final project. This is a no sewing class... bring your panels, paper, pencil and ideas!

This class is open to anyone working on a paper piecing project! It is for those who are comfortable in a sit and sew environment. In it's new format it welcomes anyone who is familiar with and working on any type of paper piecing project. There is assistance available, but no formal class instruction.

Release your inner artist in this class!! You will learn to work from a photograph or an image (if it's not your original, get the artist's permission please) and translate it into fabric to make a pictorial quilt. Each day we will start with a lecture/discussion and then lots of hands-on instruction as we create our own personal masterpieces.

Have you taken LeAnn's three day Photo's to Quilts class and released your inner artist!! Did class end and you now you've lost momentum? LeAnn is offering this one day finishing workshop to previous Photos to Quilts students who are looking to return to the class room to get their projects completed.

Rulers Can Quilt - Advanced Class (May through August) The summer months of this class will see participants working on their own quilting projects; from place mats to full quilts, if that is what they wish to do. This monthly class on each 4th Wednesday will feature students using what they have learned after the beginner's ruler class in order to complete their own distinctive projects. Design components and unique ways to use the ruler templates will be a part of the process. Come and enjoy the social atmosphere and the sense of accomplishment as you finish up your UFO's.

This class will introduce students to the amazing world of quilting with rulers. Learn to quilt your own quilting treasures with rulers and gradually move into free motion as your skill with rulers grows. The first class will involve learning on 12? square quilt sandwiches with the next few classes showing how to use your beginning sampler set in unique ways including borders, wall hangings or table toppers. Check at the front counter for a complete extensive supply list of what is needed to start this new adventure in quilting.

One Saturday morning a month we will present a topic of interest to all sewists. It is information important to all of us as we pursue our hobby to help you get the best results possible. We will teach you about fabric and threads that we sell, needles, and stabilizers to help you make the best decision about the products you choose to use. February: Don't miss out on our exciting one-day event introducing our new Fiber Artist instruction, Deb Deaton. She is an award-winning fiber and multi-media artist who is bringing her talents to our store. Come see her work as she demonstrates how she embellishes quilts with different fibers and media such as silk, wool, paints, beads and more. We will be incorporating new classes based on your interest as we branch into the unique and amazing world of art quilts! Deb Deaton received her art degree from the Art Institute of Colorado in 1978. Since then, she has been creating art in many forms; oil, watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, ink, mixed media, and fiber art. Trained by a top London fashion designer and seamstress, Deb began sewing her family's clothes and was a consultant for Colorado?s largest Couture Bridal shop. She began quilting 30 years ago and although she loves to create beautiful quilts, her love of art moved her into art quilting, leading to her launch of DJ's Fiber Arts. She is an award-winning fiber and multi-media artist, creating fiber art quilts, painting her own fabric, embellishing quilts with different fibers and media such as silk, wool, paints, beads and more. Today, Deb is a full-time fiber artist who enjoys sharing her knowledge through the unique and exciting classes she offers, introducing students to the amazing world of art quilts. Her motto is ~ "NO RULES, JUST ART"

This class is to learn the many aspects of the Bernina Designer Plus V8.2 Embroidery Software. Students will work with the software installed on their laptops in class and practice the techniques. Each month will be a different technique with the exception of lettering. This class is appropriate for those new to the software or those who have owned and worked with it for sometime. The techniques taught will look at all aspects of the software from filing and organizing your designs to working with Corel designing original artwork for digitizing. The supplemental programs such as quilting, cross stitch, applique, auto-digitizing and monograms will all be covered. The techniques are taught from the Designer Plus manual so supplemental purchases are not required. This bag can be made in two sizes. It has a zipper top and carrying straps. It is a companion piece to Running with Scissors but is great by itself. The large size can fit a small sewing machine or be filled with larger items. The smaller bag is a great size to be used as a purse or fill with sewing stuff to take to class. You will come to the first (half day) class with the required fabric quilted as per the instructions so that we can get all the required pieces cut.

What is TOL? TOL is Bernina-speak for the Top of the Line 880, 790, 590, 700 and 500 Machines. These machines all have special features that are not available on other Bernina machines. These special features are all related to Embroidery. They are not taught in regular embroidery classes because most machines do not have these enhancements, but you do, so you need to know how to use them! Right? This class is limited to owners of 880 Plus, 790 Plus, 590, 700 and 500 Machines. If your machine is older, it must have been upgraded to the Plus version.

  • Class fee must be paid at time of registration, in cash, check or credit card if paying online.  If paying by check please make check payable to the Sun Valley Quilts.

  • Students registering for classes online should contact the store by phone or in person to request a student supply list.
  • Cancellations must be made no later than 48 hours prior to class in order to receive a refund. If registration is below our class minimum of three, the class may be cancelled and a full refund will be issued.

  • Each student must have their own pattern or book if required for the class as stated under class supply list. We follow copyright laws to protect authors and pattern designers.

  • A 10% discount will be given on all class supplies and on all fabrics purchased on the day of class.

  • Please no children or visitors in class. We ask that you not use your cell phones during class time to avoid disruptions.
