This bag can be made with two size straps. I would recommend the longer strap unless you are making it for a toddler. It is a great size for everyday use and travel. There are many compartments with lots of zippers. Don't let zippers intimidate you because Annie has made them easy to install. This is my very favorite bag to carry.

This bag can be made in two sizes. It has a zipper top and carrying straps. It is a companion piece to Running with Scissors but is great by itself. The large size can fit a small sewing machine or be filled with larger items. The smaller bag is a great size to be used as a purse or fill with sewing stuff to take to class. You will come to the first (half day) class with the required fabric quilted as per the instructions so that we can get all the required pieces cut.

This beginner class is an introduction into the wonderful, creative, playful world of quilts with half-rectanlge triangles that give lots of motion to a design. In this class you will learn to cut fabric using AnglePlay templates. These templates are available for use in class if you have not purchased a set of your own. Learn the magic of AnglePlay and make half-rectangle triangles with no stress!

If you have a project... anything you're working on or want to start that is happening in the hoop this is the class to join. Each student will be embroidering any project of the choice. It's the perfect time to catch up or start something new!

Animal lovers, let's turn your photo into a work of art! You will learn a unique pattern design technique, combined with mixed media and thread painting to create an eye-catching art quilt! Learn to create animal portraits through realism applique, thread painting techniques and the use of mixed media, i.e., paints, pastels, inks. Students will learn a unique pattern design technique, combined with mixed media and thread painting to create an eye-catching art quilt. We will be using mixed media to create eyes and blending of fabrics, and finish with thread painting to create the fur. You will need to find a favorite photo of your animal. Make sure it is very clear and sharp with good value ranges. The animal should fill the full frame of the picture. Choose whether you want to whole body of the animal or maybe just the face, like my sample. Eyes are especially important, so make sure you can see them well. Just keep it really simple.

Bring your own photo or create the Arizona Sunset called "Splendor." You will be painting your background, then learn a special technique of designing your pattern, cutting, and creating. Layers are added to develop depth. You will learn all about inks, different kinds of pastels, mixed media pencils; how, when, and where to use them, not to mention the specialty paints that give the most vibrant of skies and land. Free motion and thread painting will top it off to complete your art piece. Paints will be provided for you, as well as the use of instructors mixed media supplies to share if you do not have your own.

Join Deb for this two day camp full of new techniques and inspiration. Imagine using nothing but cheesecloth and thread to create a masterpiece of your own! This class will teach you how to do just that. Bring your own photo and let's get creative! Layering different kinds of cheesecloth, dyed cheesecloth and more, you will create an art piece that is beautifully unique!

Create a beautiful piece of art using just thread! Learn to add other fibers, such as fabric or wool, and finish with thread. You will make 3D objects, with just thread! You can make an entire piece, or smaller designs to use in your fiber art pieces. Let your imagination guide you!

If you have projects that you started in any of my classes, now's the time to finish them. Bring whatever you have, and I will help you get them done. The only thing we will not be doing in this class is painting backgrounds.

Create fabulous texture using your sewing machines decorative stitches! You will also incorporate beading, different fibers, embroidery and more! Your fabric choice for the background will make your piece so exciting!

People say eyes are the windows to the soul. When you create eyes, you want to depict the personality of the subject you are working on, weather it is a human or an animal. Take the mystery out of creating eyes with this magical class that will teach you how to thread paint an eye and create an eye using mixed media. You will become addicted! In this class you will have the opportunity to do six different eyes. You will create the eye with mixed media and then create the same eye with thread painting. This will give you the opportunity to learn the different types of eyes, for example a horse has horizontal pupils, cats have a very narrow vertical pupil and so on.

Let's get creative with bindings! Learn how to apply rattail as a binding, or how to do facings (hidden bindings) instead of traditional bindings. What a way to make your art piece different! You will also learn how to create a sleeve for any kind of hanger

Learn how to embellish a piece of fabric, adding different fibers like sari yarn, rattail, thread painting, and more to create your piece of art. All of this without any couching!

A great techniques class where the student learns how Deb creates images with thread, sew through layers of fusible web, add highlights, shadows and dimension to quilts. Deb has lots of tricks that help you feel more confident, breaking all the rules while adding color and design with thread.

Explore free motion quilting and practice on the Q'Nique longarm. Learn to sketch, then stitch a variety of motifs from gentle curves, to pebbles, leaves and more. New motifs every month. Choose the Thursday or Saturday session. Bring a sketchbook and pencil to practice the designs before we move to the longarm. Each month will feature different motifs. Class content is the same on both days, so you only need to attend once a month.

Beginning quilters and those that need a refresher class will have the opportunity to join Andi for this Jumpstart Camp. You will be making quilt blocks and creating a sampler tablerunner. You'll learn cutting procedures, proper seam width, block assembly, adding borders, the actual quilting and adding your binding. Stay, learn and laugh until 2pm.

Come join us in our large classroom for some friendly, fearless, fun stitching happiness! This is an unstructured opportunity to bring your own project, and socialize at the same time. You'll have access to our cutting tables, mats, ironing boards, large tables, refrigerator, microwave and you'll get to share your show and tell! This newly reformatted class, will be much like Quilt and Chat used to be, though there will be no class instructor. You will have access to the SVQ staff if you're truly stuck, but we know that our customers are often the best at troubleshooting sewing difficulties! Come meet new friends and join those you've sewn with for years!

Come join us for a fun filled evening, wear your pajamas or your more formal attire. Our Midnight Madness and Embroidery Chicks have combined with a new name for double the fun. There will be shopping, sewing or working on your embroidery UFO's (Unfinished Objects) with the companionship of other enthusiasts. We can't guarantee how much actual work will be accomplished, but we know you'll all have a good time! Register early, bring a snack to share and bring your machines, modules, threads and your projects. Bring your own drinks and snacks, be prepared to share and have a good time. Class size limited. Please register early. Typically meets 3rd Friday evening each month 5:30 pm to Midnight!

This class is open to anyone working on a paper piecing project! It is for those who are comfortable in a sit and sew environment. In it's new format it welcomes anyone who is familiar with and working on any type of paper piecing project. There is assistance available, but no formal class instruction.

Rulers Can Quilt - Advanced Class This class is for participants who wish to work on their own quilting projects; from place mats to full quilts. This monthly class on will feature students using what they have learned after the prerequired beginner's ruler class. Teacher?s input and individual help will have them completing their own distinctive projects. Design components and unique ways to use the ruler templates will be a part of the process. Come and enjoy the social atmosphere and the sense of accomplishment as you finish up your UFO's.

This class will introduce students to the amazing world of quilting with rulers. Learn to quilt your own quilting treasures with rulers and gradually move into free motion as your skill with rulers grows. The first class will involve learning on 12 inch square quilt sandwiches; with the next few classes showing how to use your beginning sampler set in unique ways including borders, wall hangings or table toppers. Check at the front counter for a complete extensive supply list of what is needed to start this new adventure in quilting.

One Saturday morning a month we will present a topic of interest to all sewists. It is information important to all of us as we pursue our hobby to help you get the best results possible. We will teach you about fabric and threads that we sell, needles, and stabilizers to help you make the best decision about the products you choose to use. February: Don't miss out on our exciting one-day event introducing our new Fiber Artist instruction, Deb Deaton. She is an award-winning fiber and multi-media artist who is bringing her talents to our store. Come see her work as she demonstrates how she embellishes quilts with different fibers and media such as silk, wool, paints, beads and more. We will be incorporating new classes based on your interest as we branch into the unique and amazing world of art quilts! Deb Deaton received her art degree from the Art Institute of Colorado in 1978. Since then, she has been creating art in many forms; oil, watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, ink, mixed media, and fiber art. Trained by a top London fashion designer and seamstress, Deb began sewing her family's clothes and was a consultant for Colorado?s largest Couture Bridal shop. She began quilting 30 years ago and although she loves to create beautiful quilts, her love of art moved her into art quilting, leading to her launch of DJ's Fiber Arts. She is an award-winning fiber and multi-media artist, creating fiber art quilts, painting her own fabric, embellishing quilts with different fibers and media such as silk, wool, paints, beads and more. Today, Deb is a full-time fiber artist who enjoys sharing her knowledge through the unique and exciting classes she offers, introducing students to the amazing world of art quilts. Her motto is ~ "NO RULES, JUST ART"

Making a t-shirt quilt is a wonderful way to memorialize those special moments for yourself or a loved one. Gather your old faves and come learn time saving tips, tricks and design secrets.

  • Class fee must be paid at time of registration, in cash, check or credit card if paying online.  If paying by check please make check payable to the Sun Valley Quilts.

  • Students registering for classes online should contact the store by phone or in person to request a student supply list.
  • Cancellations must be made no later than 48 hours prior to class in order to receive a refund. If registration is below our class minimum of three, the class may be cancelled and a full refund will be issued.

  • Each student must have their own pattern or book if required for the class as stated under class supply list. We follow copyright laws to protect authors and pattern designers.

  • A 10% discount will be given on all class supplies and on all fabrics purchased on the day of class.

  • Please no children or visitors in class. We ask that you not use your cell phones during class time to avoid disruptions.
