Learn to create animal portraits through realism applique, thread painting techniques and the use of mixed media, i.e., paints, pastels, inks. Students will learn a unique pattern design technique, combined with mixed media and thread painting to create an eye-catching art quilt. We will be using mixed media to create eyes and blending of fabrics, and finish with thread painting to create the fur. You will need to find a favorite photo of your animal. Make sure it is very clear and sharp with good value ranges. The animal should fill the full frame of the picture. This class will teach you how to create your own art piece by adding texture with fibers. I will show you how to add different fibers like sari yarn, rattail, thread painting, and more to create your piece of art. The sky?s the limit to what you can embellish with. I have used metallic threads, gemstones, feathers, cheesecloth, whatever you love. Many students will have painted their own fabric, then want to embellish it. That is great if you have a wonderful painted piece you want to bring. Otherwise, I would suggest a beautiful batik or hand dyed fabric. Your fabric could have words on it, then embellish around it. There really is no right or wrong in fabric choices.

Cost: $ 60.00

I paint a lot of my fabrics that I use in my fiber arts. I will teach you how to create batik looking fabric, tie-dye look and more. You will be using all of my supplies so no need to worry about the purchase of paints. This class is designed to introduce you to high quality textile paints. Starting with white PFD fabric, I will show you how to use oil Shiva sticks, acrylics, rock salt, paint plates, stencils and more.

Each of the 37 blocks in this book has a double, albeit with different fabric placement. Design your own quilt/table runner/wall hanging or quilt with the blocks of your choice for a totally unique project. You will not be making all of the blocks shown in the book (unless you always like to make king size quilts and feel cheated if you don't take advantage of everything in the book!) In other words, don't feel obligated to make a quilt the size of the classroom sample. Blocks are make by straight piecing and paper piecing and finish at 12". Come to class for color ideas, tips on piecing, to socialize or just to have a boost to complete the quilt. You will not regret owning this book as it is full of fabulous ideas.
